Midshipman Alan Lewrie

Recently, I started reading the Alan Lewrie novels by Dewey Lambdin--and I totally love them! It's an excellent series centered on the Royal Navy around the time of the American Revolution. And since I started enjoying the books so much, I decided to draw Alan, who starts out as a midshipman and slowly works his way up the ranks. I Alan Lewrie. Seriously. He's almost a cross between James Norrington and Richard Sharpe, with lots of rakishness thrown in as well. I imagine him to be totally hot, too.

Anyway, here's my own personal rendition of Alan as a midshipman. Thankfully, I found a reference for a midshipman's coat of the period, because I wasn't sure exactly what one would have looked like. This isn't really supposed to be any particular scene in the books, just a random, pre-fight picture. And yes, those are cannons in the background.
